![]() When I was younger, I resisted all types of working out, it seemed boring and repetitive to me. I thought the only way to work out was to get a gym membership and become a meat head; lifting weights and running in place on a treadmill (how exciting). I did get a gym membership in my early twenties through Planet Fitness and it was a fine gym. I didn’t love it, but I knew I needed some form of physical activity. I would go in and get on the treadmill or elliptical for thirty minutes and then work on the machines or weights for 5-30mins. I found the entire process boring and to be honest rather strange. It wasn’t until I took my first yoga class that I realized there was more than one way to exercise the body. I used to go to Centered City Yoga and would take a classes from the amazing D’ana Baptiste, she would have all of us sweating within minutes! She created yoga sequences that toned my core, strengthened my body, and created more flexibility. Above all I actually enjoyed it! I found an avenue of body movement that was enjoyable; up until this point I thought people who enjoyed working out were crazy! During my early to mid-twenties I had a ‘on and off’ relationship with yoga, but I explored other avenues of working out. I took dance classes, cycling classes, road biking, the occasional hike, rock climbing, just to name a few. The world was unfolding to me, there is so much more to physical activity than what I thought. All my assumptions about working out where crumbling away. This series in the blog is all about movement. I will be sharing my experiences and different areas of physical fitness to show that there are so many ways to work out. I will also be continuing to try new activities and document/share them with you all. My intention is to help motivate those who are not getting physical activity; to help them begin a pattern of getting some type of physical movement in their day. I want to share with you that you can get daily activity in your life and make it fun and exciting. What I will share in this series will also allow you to establish new patterns, create a well-rounded self-care system and meet new people and become part of a new community. For those who are already working out, I hope this series allows you the opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and perhaps try something new. If you are curious about a certain activity or form of working out let me know! I’d be happy to hear about your experiences or even explore your curiosities with you. If you are looking at an activity, for example kick boxing, skiing, or Pilates explore Class Pass, they have great introduction offers (no commitment) that will allow you to explore your interests for a fraction of the cost. REI also provides awesome events and classes carted for those who want to get outside! Happy exercising, I'm excited to share these experiences and hear about yours!
